My Guinea Pigs Are NOT Spoiled

Evolution Of My Caviary

December 2004

December 2004: Overview of the 2.5-story Victorian mansion and 2-car garage with Electric Door Opener.

Tina (red eyes) and Stinky Pee Butt peer out of the garage as Mama-San checks out the food bowl. For safety’s sake, I removed the batteries from the garage door opener, and taped the doors open.

View of the garage & back of the house. Can you believe that Zebbie (dark brown) and Stinky Pee Butt can jump through the house windows?

Stinky Pee Butt tastes a garage door while Zebbie & Tina have supper.

February 2003

end view of drawbridge (down) with Tina crossing

February 2003, Christina of Sweden uses the drawbridge to get from one C&C cage to the other.

The drawbridge is made of cube grids, bent slightly, and covered with a piece of utility floor matting (from the hardware store) held on by binder clips (red on the left and green on the right in this photo.

The drawbridge is attached/hinged to the cube wall with binder rings.  Shower curtain pins are used to hold the drawbridge up when I want to confine the pigs to one side of the cage (while I clean the other side).

I used a bolt cutter to cut the passageway between the two cages.  I left extra grid wire and looped it back with a pliers, to ensure no pointy ends poking out at my precious piggies.

From this side view, you can see the slight curve of the drawbridge grids.  Notice how the underside of the drawbridge makes a nice hidey-hole.

Mama-San crossing from black cage to red, while Booger-Nose naps under the bridge.  The Emperor Aurangzeb, in the background, decides which of his lady friends to smooch next.

One side of the drawbridge held up with a shower curtain "pin".  A hayrack in the background is what looks like scuzzy stuff on top of the drawbridge.

In this view, it's easier to see the brightly-colored binder clips which hold the floor mat piece onto the drawbridge grid.

Imperial Matrimonial Palace

October, 2002:  The Emperor Aurangzeb preparing the Imperial Matrimonial Palace for his bride,
Christina of Sweden (she of the demonic red eyes, looking on from a box in the cage behind).
The matrimonial palace foundation is a 24"x36" utility tub from the
hardware store, with walls of scrap wood and hardware cloth.
The mezzanine is made from the lid of a Rubbermaid storage container held up by wooden legs.
The deck is accessed via a "jeffries tube" made of one of those expandable aluminum clothes-dryer-vents
(bends like an accordion straw).  The pigs LOVE their jeffries tube and run up and down just for the fun of it.

The batch pad is on wire shelving, constructed of hardware cloth,
peg board, and 2 plastic "stackable drawer" units.
